Second Graders truly make me smile!

What am I thinking about? As usual on a Sunday afternoon I'm planning for the next week of school and wondering what surprises it may bring! Lately I'm exhausted when I arrive home and a nap is all I want - it helps to remember how much I really enjoy what I'm doing.

Sometimes I just have to smile at how funny second grade interpretations can really be! My plan was an online book about Abraham Lincoln in honor of the anniversary of his 200th birthday. Sounds easy, right? Well, it's just NOT happening this year.

After 2 1/2 week of research, here are the most successful:

We read that Lincoln was over 6 foot tall. Two of my girls were fascinated with the story that Lincoln carried important papers in his hat.

Do you notice how TALL Lincoln is in the picture!

And then we have this picture:

Girls, again (obviously!)
Abe is delivering the mail. (They read that one job he had was as Postmaster.)
The concept of 1800s housing just isn't there! At least Abe is a normal size in this one.

This next boy/girl combination report was about how Abe Lincoln married Mary Todd.

Again - Abe is REALLY tall. Notice the size of the flower in relation to Mary's head!
And Mary, well - she didn't look like that in any of the books I read.

Actually, this version of the Revolutionary War is quite good. Then you look closely and see the tiny soldier in the bottom right corner! He really looks like a knight to me rather than a soldier! This is what happens when 2 boys and a 1 girl team up. "He didn't leave us any room to draw. Then, I really know the concept of "war" just isn't happening from the smiles.

Maybe you "just have to be there" to really appreciate it, but second graders can truly make me smile!
